The expedition commences in the Kashmir Valley, starting from the water-fronts of Srinagar and moving northeast toward the rugged mountain terrain. The initial phase of the journey involves a dramatic transition through the Shivalik and Himalayan ranges, crossing the Zojila Pass to enter the high-altitude desert of the Kargil district. Movement follows the historical trade routes along the Indus River, pausing at ancient rock carvings and monasteries that define the cultural threshold of the Ladakh region.
The route then centers on the Leh plateau, serving as the central hub for high-altitude excursions into the northern frontiers. This geographic phase focuses on crossing the massive Khardung La ridge to reach the cold desert sand dunes of the Nubra Valley. The itinerary tracks the Shyok River eastward, navigating the remote borderlands to reach the crystalline waters of Pangong Tso on the eastern edge of the Ladakh Range.
The final leg of the circuit involves a return descent from the high-altitude wetlands toward the Indus Valley floor. The route explores the monastic heartland of Ladakh, visiting the largest spiritual centers and royal summer palaces of the region. The journey concludes with a series of cultural stops at historical heritage sites before reaching the Leh transit corridor for departure, completing the comprehensive trans-Himalayan loop.
