This Char Dham pilgrimage begins in Delhi and moves toward the sacred city of Haridwar along the Ganges. From the plains, the journey gradually ascends into the Garhwal Himalayan region through Mussoorie and onward to Barkot, marking the transition into the Yamuna Valley.
From Barkot, travelers proceed toward Yamunotri through a combination of mountain driving and trekking routes starting at Janki Chatti. After completing the first shrine, the journey continues eastward across forested valleys toward Uttarkashi in the Bhagirathi River region.
Uttarkashi serves as the base for visiting Gangotri in the upper Himalayan zone. The route follows the Bhagirathi valley into higher altitudes before returning and continuing southward across multiple river valleys toward Guptkashi.
Guptkashi acts as the gateway to Kedarnath, where travelers move toward Gaurikund and undertake the traditional Himalayan trek to reach the temple region. After completing the pilgrimage, the journey returns to the Mandakini valley base.
The itinerary then shifts eastward into the Alaknanda Valley, passing through major confluences and mountain towns before reaching Badrinath in the higher Himalayan region. After sightseeing, the journey descends toward Joshimath through scenic mountain landscapes.
In the final phase, the route continues through the Panch Prayag region while descending toward the Ganges foothills and reaching Rishikesh. The journey concludes with local sightseeing before returning to Delhi, completing the Char Dham circuit.
