This Char Dham pilgrimage begins in Delhi and moves north toward the sacred city of Haridwar, where the journey along the holy Ganga introduces the spiritual atmosphere of the Himalayas. From the plains of Uttarakhand, the route gradually climbs into the Garhwal hill region through Mussoorie and Yamuna Valley before reaching Barkot, the gateway to Yamunotri.
The itinerary then follows the western Garhwal Himalayan corridor toward Yamunotri, combining a scenic mountain drive with a pilgrimage trek from Janki Chatti. After returning to Barkot, the journey continues deeper into the Bhagirathi Valley toward Uttarkashi, a historic spiritual town that serves as the base for visiting Gangotri in the higher Himalayas.
From Uttarkashi, the route transitions southward and then east across multiple river valleys toward Guptkashi, passing several sacred confluences of Himalayan rivers. This section of the journey highlights the geography of the Garhwal region where major rivers meet before flowing into the Ganges basin.
Guptkashi becomes the base for the Kedarnath pilgrimage, where travelers take a helicopter journey into the high Himalayan temple region before returning to the Mandakini Valley. The itinerary then moves toward the Alaknanda Valley, crossing mountain towns and pilgrimage gateways before reaching Badrinath.
After exploring Badrinath and the surrounding temple region, the journey descends through Joshimath and the series of sacred river confluences known as the Panch Prayag. The route gradually returns from the high Himalayas toward the foothills, eventually reaching the spiritual town of Rishikesh along the Ganges.
The final stage of the itinerary focuses on the spiritual centers and riverfront areas of Rishikesh before completing the return journey to Delhi, concluding the full Char Dham circuit across the Garhwal Himalayan region.
