The journey begins from Chandigarh, ascending into the Shivalik and middle Himalayan ranges toward Shimla with scenic halts across Kalka, Solan, and Shoghi before settling into the colonial hill town.
From Shimla, the route follows the Hindustan–Tibet Road eastward through Fagu, Rampur, and Karcham into the Baspa Valley, reaching Chitkul and continuing onward to Kalpa in the Kinnaur region.
The expedition then transitions into the stark cold desert terrain of Spiti via Nako, gradually moving deeper into high-altitude monasteries and river valleys around Kaza, including excursions into Pin Valley.
The circuit advances across Kunzum Pass to Chandertaal Lake, then descends through Batal and Gramphu into the Lahaul region, passing the Atal Tunnel to reach the greener valleys of Manali.
From Manali, a northern excursion crosses back through the Atal Tunnel to explore Sissu in Lahaul before returning to the Beas Valley. The final stretch descends through Kullu and Mandi toward Chandigarh, completing a full trans-Himalayan loop across Kinnaur, Spiti, Lahaul, and Kullu valleys.
