This Char Dham pilgrimage begins in Dehradun and first travels to the nearby hill station of Mussoorie located in the lower Himalayan range. The journey gradually moves from the Doon Valley into higher mountain terrain while exploring important viewpoints and temples in the region.
From Mussoorie, the route continues toward the Yamuna Valley to reach Barkot, the gateway town for the Yamunotri pilgrimage. After completing the trek to Yamunotri, the journey proceeds eastward through the Bhagirathi River valley toward the spiritual town of Uttarkashi.
Uttarkashi serves as the base for visiting Gangotri located deeper in the Himalayan mountains. After returning from the Gangotri region, the route crosses several valleys and sacred river confluences before reaching Guptkashi in the Mandakini River valley, the base for the Kedarnath pilgrimage.
Following the Kedarnath visit via helicopter, the journey shifts toward the Alaknanda Valley, passing through Himalayan towns including Joshimath before reaching Badrinath in the upper Garhwal Himalayas. After completing the final Char Dham shrine, the route descends through multiple river confluence towns along the Alaknanda basin.
The pilgrimage concludes with a stay in the spiritual town of Rishikesh located on the banks of the Ganges. After exploring the important ghats, temples, and ashrams of the region, the journey returns to Dehradun for departure, completing the full Char Dham circuit across Uttarakhand.
