The journey begins from Guwahati with a scenic drive to Bhalukpong, marking the transition from Assam’s plains into the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh. Surrounded by forests and the Kameng River, Bhalukpong offers a calm starting point before moving deeper into the mountains. The route then continues to Dirang with stops at Lumum Waterfall and Bomdila Tri Junction. Dirang serves as an acclimatization halt with visits to Dirang Village, TDL Buddhist Monastery, Kalachakra Gompa, and the nearby hot spring, reflecting local culture and natural settings.
From Dirang, the route climbs toward Tawang via the high-altitude Sela Pass, known for snow-covered landscapes and alpine lakes. En route, Jaswant Garh War Memorial and Jung Falls provide historical and natural highlights. In Tawang, exploration includes Ugyenling Monastery, the Giant Buddha Statue, and Tawang Monastery, along with the Gaden Namgyal Lhatse Museum. A dedicated excursion day covers Bum La Pass near the border and Madhuri Lake, both representing high-altitude terrain and glacial formations in the eastern Himalayas.
The return journey begins from Tawang toward Bomdila, retracing mountain routes through Sela Pass with stops again at Jaswant Garh and Nuranang Falls. Bomdila Monastery adds a final cultural experience before descending toward Assam. The route gradually shifts from rugged mountains to green valleys and forested foothills. The final stretch from Bomdila to Guwahati completes the circuit, covering river valleys, hill towns, monasteries, and high-altitude passes across a well-connected northeastern Himalayan travel route.
