This extended Char Dham pilgrimage begins in Delhi and travels toward Haridwar along the Ganges plains before gradually ascending into the Garhwal Himalayan region. The journey first moves through the foothill landscapes toward Barkot, the gateway to the Yamuna Valley and the Yamunotri pilgrimage region.
From Barkot, travelers undertake the Yamunotri pilgrimage through a combination of mountain driving and trekking routes beginning at Janki Chatti. After completing the first Char Dham shrine, the route continues eastward through forested valleys toward Uttarkashi along the Bhagirathi River basin.
Uttarkashi serves as the base for visiting Gangotri in the upper Himalayan region. After returning from the Gangotri valley, the journey continues southward across multiple river valleys and sacred confluences before reaching Guptkashi in the Mandakini Valley.
Guptkashi acts as the gateway for the Kedarnath pilgrimage where travelers proceed toward Gaurikund and undertake the traditional high-altitude trek to reach the temple region. After completing the Kedarnath pilgrimage, the itinerary transitions toward the alpine landscapes of Chopta in the Kedarnath wildlife region.
The Chopta region introduces Himalayan trekking routes and high-altitude viewpoints including temple trails and alpine lakes. From here the journey continues eastward toward Joshimath through the Alaknanda valley, which becomes the base for visiting the Badrinath temple region and nearby Himalayan villages.
After completing the Badrinath pilgrimage, the route descends through the Alaknanda valley passing the sacred Panch Prayag river confluences before reaching the foothill spiritual town of Rishikesh. The journey concludes with temple visits and riverfront exploration before returning to Delhi.
