This Char Dham pilgrimage begins in Dehradun and ascends into the Himalayan foothills toward the hill station of Mussoorie. After exploring the scenic viewpoints and temples of the region, the journey moves deeper into the Garhwal mountains toward Barkot through forested hill roads and mountain valleys.
From Barkot, the route enters the Yamuna Valley where travelers proceed toward the Yamunotri region through a combination of mountain driving and trekking routes beginning at Janki Chatti. After completing the first Char Dham shrine, the itinerary continues eastward through rugged Himalayan terrain toward Uttarkashi along the Bhagirathi River basin.
Uttarkashi serves as the base for the Gangotri pilgrimage in the upper Himalayan region. After returning from Gangotri, the route continues southward across multiple valleys and sacred river confluences toward Guptkashi in the Mandakini Valley.
Guptkashi acts as the gateway for the Kedarnath pilgrimage, where travelers reach the temple region by helicopter before returning to the Mandakini valley base. The itinerary then transitions toward the alpine landscapes of Chopta, known for its high-altitude meadows and trekking trails.
From Chopta, the journey explores Himalayan trekking routes and scenic alpine lakes before continuing toward Joshimath in the Alaknanda Valley. Joshimath becomes the base for visiting the Badrinath temple region and nearby Himalayan villages located close to the Indo-Tibetan frontier.
After completing the Badrinath pilgrimage, the route gradually descends through the Alaknanda valley and the sacred river confluences known as the Panch Prayag. The final stage of the journey reaches Rishikesh along the Ganges foothills before concluding with the return transfer to Dehradun.
This itinerary is designed for around 12 to 13 days covering Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath and Tungnath trek
